* an event you should invite ALL your friends to.
* an awesomely fun night with costumes HIGHLY encouraged.
* a mustached mock beauty pageant with scientific(ish) scoring.
* celebrity judged by our favorite Charm City Roller Girls and cheerleaders from Baltimore’s favorite football team (who we’re not allowed to name without getting our mustaches sued).
* going to feature a mechanical bull. (Please forgive us.)

Today is Shaving Day, when all volunteer Growers must shave off any pre-existing facial hair before embarking on a month-long journey of questionable grooming and self-discovery!

We invite all Growers, potential Growers, friends of Growers, and lovers of facial hair and charity to join us THIS EVENING at our first sponsor bar, Field House, in Canton, Baltimore.

For those of you who truly want to embrace the sprit of shaving day, we invite you, nay, CHALLENGE YOU, to shave with your brethren staches at The Field House!  (We’ll provide the shaving cream – bring your favorite razor, or use one of ours.)  There will also be a $200 donation made to the Grower who has the most impressive* shave job at the bar! (*criteria TBD)

Whether you show up at the bar or not, remember that on Shaving Day, per Mustache Rules (http://www.m4kbaltimore.org/rules) you must shave your face clean of any and all facial hair. This includes, but is not limited to, Mustaches, beards, goatees, muttonchops, chinstraps, soul patches, sideburns that extend below the top of the earlobe, and Van Dykes.

Yes folks, pick up the October issue of ESPN Magazine, flip to page 32 and you’ll see our very own 2010 Stache Bash winner Dan “Lil’ Ed” Baldwin staring back at you!

Dan was invited to throw out the first pitch at the Bowie Baysox Mustache Mania night last summer. After hurling a nasty 82 mph breaking ball at a very surprised minor-league catcher, Dan then ambled over to take a picture with team mascot “Louie”, thus continuing to extend the 15 minutes of fame launched last December when he won Baltimore’s 2010 Sweetest Stache crown.

“This year, I won’t accept anything less than being featured on the covers of GQ, Model Airplane News, and Garden & Gun. In the same month, of course.” says the ego-raging Baldwin.

However, we NEED YOUR HELP!  The impact we make in our local communities is directly related to how many sweet, sexy mustaches and mustache supporters are roaming around Baltimore.  Believe us, in our 4th year, we’ve learned this immutable fact.  We raised an impressive $32,500 in 2010 – time to do even better!

 For Growing Season 2011, we are proud to again join with DonorsChoose.org as our charitable partner. DonorsChoose.org is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit that allows donors to individually choose and directly fund teacher-submitted educational projects, improving the public school experience for students in Baltimore City and around the country.

This year’s growing season will officially start on SHAVING DAY, Tuesday, November 1st  with all existing facial hair shaved clean (possibly in public!).  Check out our Events page and mark your calendars!

The Stache Bash competition for the coveted title of “Sweetest Stache 2010″ was fierce!  Retro Mike Ditka, Magnum PI, the construction worker from the Village People, and multiple Ron Burgundys all battled it out.  But in the end, it was Hulk Hogan (Dan “Lil’ Ed” Baldwin) who successfully navigated past the mustache poetry competition, the dance off, and Borat in a man-kini (yes, we’re serious) to emerge victorious! And he did a pretty damn good job fundraising too.

Stache Bash, often described as “beauty pageant meets police lineup”, is a celebration of our brave volunteers who have spent an entire month living their regular lives while growing raging lip caterpillars, upper-lip sweaters, or if you prefer…”sweet mustaches”, while raising money to improve local classrooms!

Oh yes, these guys are in it for the kids. But we need need YOU to help us crown “Baltimore’s Sweetest Stache of 2010!” INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!

6-7pm – Contestant registration and libation liberation. Come early!
7-9:30pm – Sweetest Stache Competition

The competition will be guest judged by The Quinntessential Gentleman barber shop, the Baltimore Beard and Mustache Club, the Charm City Roller Derby Girls, and the Baltimore [football team we're not allowed to mention] cheerleaders!

Mustaches and mustache-related costumes are HIGHLY encouraged for both contestants AND GUESTS!
